Women held more jobs than men for the first time since 2010, as reported by the Labor Department. Women comprise over 50% of all jobs nationwide, surpassing men by over 100,000 job positions as of the end of 2019.
Particular growth within sectors that primarily employ women, such as education and health care, saw the largest increases with over 36,000 jobs added in December 2019.
Employment inequality has been an issue for women within various industries for years, but has now evolved into more consistent employment for women. The Labor Department also noted that women are more likely to hold two or more jobs, while men usually hold one job.
